1888 to 2013 - Celebrating 125 years of cricket at Ashley

Geoff Medford

Geoff Medford  - Passed away in Canada 2nd May 2012.

 

Geoff was recruited from Altrincham Grammar School (AGSB) and Leeds University and played in the 1950’s – 1960’s when Ashley CC drew players from the School and local village .

 

Geoff played for  AGSB  1st XI and Ashley 1st XI where his was Captain for a number of years. Geoff was a forceful batsman and a very fast bowler when given  the ball by his Captain Jim Stockton.

 

He was also a member of the Ashley side that won the ‘Stanway Trophy’ and also the touring side ‘Cheshire Cats’.  Geoff was also a member of a side enhanced by players drawn from local sides who played and drew two games against the Pakistan Eaglets. He then went on o tour the South of England with four other Ashley players including Alan Booth and J Stockton.

 

Geoff was also a fine footballer  who  played for Broadheath Central  for a number of seasons.

 

In the late 1970’s Geoff , his wife Chris (A former Ashley Tea Lady) and their children emigrated to Canada.

 

A nice person, a good all round sportsman, a pleasure to have known him.
