2nd Team Report – Sat 21 June away to Port Sunlight
The seconds returned to winning ways with a clinical display in the blazing sun of the holiday resort of Port Sunlight. Finally winning a toss, Captain Ruby had no hesitation in popadoming the opposition in. Sunlight were soon in a lime pickle. Dan “Busby” Harvey snatched a few moments between calls to dial up a blistering spell, engaging the batsmen in risky shots and almost nokiaing over the stumps on a number of occasions. A one-to-one between bowler and captain resulted in Busby cellnetting three wickets for 12 runs, two caught by Katie and one by Simmo-the-Mow. “Verbal” Wright bowled aggressively for his wicket, and left Jacko and “Thespian” to tighten the Vice. Thespian fought through the hereditary injuries to inflict two Casualties on the opposition, bowling Fast and Furious in Top Gear. A late wicket and a run-out by Bowling Ali finished the innings, leaving Ashley 68 to win.
Pongo then watched on with pride as his son, Caligula, plundered the bowling for a fine 53 not out, as Simmo-the-Mow struggled at the other end, against, as usual, all the best balls of the day.
A fine 20 points were celebrated by the travelling supporter who wore his Ashley shirt with pride.
